Nemesis Figure
Nemesis is sent into Raccoon City with a target: the surviving members of S.T.A.R.S. For Jill Valentine, that makes the creature’s pursuit personal. It can follow, use weapons and return after an encounter that seemed to have stopped it.
Nemesis figures recall that repeated threat in Resident Evil 3. Its damaged face and immense body are familiar, but the original game and the remake give the pursuer distinct designs, with different clothing, facial construction and transformations.

Story and character
A bioweapon with an assignment
Nemesis belongs to Umbrella’s Tyrant research. The European Nemesis project uses the NE-α parasite with a Tyrant host to create a bioweapon capable of carrying out its orders. Its intelligence allows the pursuit to become more directed than an ordinary creature’s attack.
The word S.T.A.R.S. makes the assignment audible. Jill is being hunted for her membership in the team that uncovered Umbrella’s experiments. A rocket launcher adds another level of danger: getting clear of the creature’s reach does not necessarily put her outside its attack.
Why the remake wraps Nemesis in black
The original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis gives the creature a heavy dark coat and a visibly damaged, stitched face. The remake reconstructs the head and covers much of the body in black restraining material, with a device fitted to the chest.
Those coverings have a purpose within the remake’s design. Nemesis is a prototype requiring equipment to regulate and restrain it. The hurriedly fitted material gives it a less finished appearance than the Tyrant encountered in Resident Evil 2.
The pursuit changes its body
Nemesis does not retain its initial form throughout Resident Evil 3. As the encounters continue, transformations alter its body and the way it attacks. The humanoid pursuer is one stage in that progression.
A later, more mutated appearance recalls a different encounter from the coat-wearing figure with a weapon. Both belong to the same sustained pursuit, whose pressure comes from Jill repeatedly having to escape a creature that changes along with the fight.
Nemesis’s appearance points to a particular game and stage of Jill’s pursuit, from the armed humanoid prototype to its transformed bodies.
