The story

Understanding My Hero Academia

The hero behind the public image

All Might's smile reassures people who cannot see the injuries limiting his strength. Izuku discovers that vulnerability before receiving One For All. The distance between the Symbol of Peace and Toshinori Yagi makes becoming a hero a more difficult task than copying the appearance of someone admired.

A costume made for the person wearing it

U.A.'s uniforms place the students in the same school, while their hero costumes prepare them for very different abilities. Deku has to adapt his movements to a power his body cannot initially withstand. Bakugo directs explosions through his hands. Todoroki must decide whether he will use the fire inherited from his father.

The class changes what strength means

Bakugo's ambition, Todoroki's family conflict and Deku's readiness to sacrifice himself create problems a stronger attack cannot settle. Their training brings them into contact with classmates and teachers who challenge those habits. Later appearances carry the injuries and equipment of that education, along with decisions about accepting help, saving others and taking responsibility for past harm.
