Morgana Figure

Morgana is already arguing about what he is when the Phantom Thieves are still learning how their new world works. Rescued by the protagonist and Ryuji inside a Palace, he becomes a companion who can explain the Metaverse while leaving plenty of questions about himself unanswered.

A Morgana figure may recall the masked teammate known as Mona or the cat who shares the protagonist’s everyday life. Those appearances come from his unusual place between the two worlds of Persona 5.

Story and character

A companion in two worlds

After the Palace encounter, Morgana lives with the protagonist. Their partnership continues outside the team’s operations, through the meals, conversations and ordinary pauses that fill the calendar between missions.

His everyday cat appearance and his upright, masked Metaverse form make that change of setting visible. The blue eyes and black-and-white face connect them, but his thief’s scarf and equipment belong to the version who can take part in an infiltration. His repeated objections to being called a cat also keep his uncertain identity in the conversation.

Mona has a job in the team

Morgana supports the thieves even when he is complaining at them. He brings knowledge they need to navigate unfamiliar situations, and his initial Persona, Zorro, makes him a combatant alongside the human members.

Zorro carries the name and masked swordsman imagery of the outlaw who defends people against abusive authorities. That connection fits the team Morgana helps to build. The small companion has a place in its battles and its purpose, as well as in its comic exchanges.

The journey through Mementos

Morgana’s ability to change shape becomes especially useful in Mementos, the vast, shifting dungeon where the thieves take on requests beyond the main Palace missions. He turns into the bus that carries the group through it.

That transformation is another of his in-game forms. It helps explain why Morgana can appear so differently across Persona artwork and collectibles without becoming a different character: the cat, the masked thief and the vehicle all have a role in the group’s shared life.

Morgana keeps the thieves moving, from their conversations at home to the long routes through Mementos. His changing appearance follows him through those parts of the game.
