Bowser Figures

Bowser takes over castles, kidnaps Peach and waits for Mario at the end of dangerous courses. His spiked shell, enormous strength and fire breath turn those final confrontations into a different kind of challenge from the enemies along the way.

Bowser figures also draw on the games that give him other roles, from an extravagant wedding scheme to an uneasy place beside Mario in a role-playing party.

Story and character

The King of the Koopas

Bowser commands the forces that repeatedly trouble the Mushroom Kingdom. His size, horns, claws and shell give him an immediate physical advantage, while his ability to breathe fire extends the threat beyond arm’s reach.

The familiar design works across many of those confrontations. It also connects him to Bowser Jr., his son, who has his own part in causing trouble for Mario and the others. The smaller Koopa with the painted bib is a distinct character, with a relationship to the king.

The wedding suit in Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey dresses Bowser in a white suit and top hat for his planned wedding to Peach. Mario’s pursuit takes the ceremony and its preparations across the game’s kingdoms.

The formal clothes belong to that scheme. The shell and horns remain visible, keeping the would-be groom recognizable even as the costume changes the tone of his entrance. A wedding portrayal recalls Odyssey’s particular version of Bowser and the event Mario is trying to prevent.

An ally when his own castle is at stake

Super Mario RPG brings Bowser into Mario’s party after the Smithy Gang disrupts their world. Restoring Star Road also offers him a way to reclaim Bowser’s Keep, giving the former opponent a reason to fight beside the group.

That alliance allows the same strength and temper to work within a different relationship. Bowser can take part in the team’s adventure without ceasing to be the proud Koopa king who wants his castle back. His more comic or cooperative portrayals have a place alongside the confrontations he is better known for.

Bowser’s familiar shell connects the designs; the game around it explains whether he is the obstacle, the would-be groom or the unlikely teammate.
