Armin Figure

Armin Arlert introduces Eren to the outside world through a forbidden book. Deserts, frozen lands and the sea give the boys something to imagine beyond the walls. For Armin, becoming a soldier means trying to reach those places while doubting that he has the strength to survive the journey.

Armin figures draw on the young Survey Corps recruit and the older strategist who inherits the Colossal Titan. The change in his power is enormous. His habit of looking for an explanation, a plan or a chance to speak to someone remains central to what he does with it.

Story and character

Finding a place at Trost

Armin struggles with the physical demands of training. On the battlefield, he measures himself against Eren and Mikasa and sees how often they have protected him. They see another ability: he can notice something everyone else has missed and turn it into a way forward.

At Trost, he helps the surviving recruits recover access to their gas supplies. Later, when soldiers aim their weapons at Eren, Armin puts himself in front of them and argues for a use of Eren’s Titan power. Speaking becomes a dangerous action with consequences as immediate as drawing a blade.

Inheriting the Colossal Titan

The return to Shiganshina forces Armin to put his own body into a plan against Bertholdt. He buys time for Eren at a cost he expects to be fatal. His eventual survival depends on Levi’s decision to give him the Titan injection rather than Erwin.

Inheriting the Colossal Titan makes him capable of destruction on a scale utterly different from his early military experience. The transformation can devastate an area before the Titan takes a step. Armin now has to live with what using that force does to the people caught around it.

Surviving in Erwin’s place also leaves him with an impossible comparison. Others may need him to make decisions, but possessing a powerful Titan does not remove his doubts about whether he is the person they should have saved.

The sea and the work of talking

Reaching the sea gives a physical reality to the book he shared with Eren. Their responses already reveal a growing distance: Armin can still be astonished by the place itself, while Eren looks toward the enemies beyond it.

Later, as a commander, Armin continues trying to understand people on opposing sides. The effort to stop the Rumbling requires him to fight and negotiate with former enemies. The boy who helped his friends imagine a larger world has to find a way for people to keep living in it.

Armin’s uniform places him among the soldiers he once feared he could not keep up with; his Titan inheritance brings responsibilities none of them could have imagined as children.
